Gates

From simple construction using nailed, hand-cleft palings to more detailed and substantial hand-dressed, mortise and tenon framed gates. Gates don’t have to be just to fill an opening in a  boundary hedge or fence…use them as a focal point within the garden itself, or as a way of encouraging visitors to explore what lies beyond.

Pdf Price List

All the images in the gallery below are examples of gate designs that can be made to order. Please contact us to request a pdf price list.

The pdf  has a wide range of  typical, “standard” gate size combinations  to give you an easy “at a glance” guide of the pricing structure for gates. If you don’t see the size you require, then we can  still make a gate, or gates, to your precise dimensions, subject to the gate size limitations below.

You will also find options for a curved top rail instead of a straight one, an additional diagonal brace, larger dimensioned outer verticals (necessary of you are wanting to have adjustable gate eye hinges) plus chunky palings.

Gate-size Limitations and Designs

Individual gates can be made up to a maximum width of 1.5m wide x 1.2m high. For  wider openings up to 3.0m maximum, then we can make, for example, a pair of gates  each at 1.5m  wide.

Gates designs shown with mortise and tenon joints can  be made using nailed construction as an alternative. These  nailed gates are our most popular being a more economical gate which is still, nevertheless, of very robust construction, comparable to the jointed gates.

Palings and Pickets

Some of the  gates shown in the images have been made using pickets-these have a profile that is  flatter and straighter than palings  and have a width of some 50mm-60mm. Palings  tend to have a rounded-triangular profile,  often with more curves/irregularities and are generally some  35mm-40mm wide. PLEASE NOTE that we are no longer making gates using pickets. Any gate designs shown will be with palings.
