Based near Bridport, amidst the rolling hills of glorious West Dorset The Creative Chestnut Company has accumulated a considerable experience in landscaping and designing green spaces tailored to meet the client’s needs. It is owned and run by me, Tim Roskell.

In October 2010, fed up with ridiculously long hours and not being appreciated and properly acknowledged for my hard work, I left my surveying career to set up my own Garden Landscaping business with the emphasis on creating something individual and special in peoples’ gardens where they were looking for inspiration or just wanted a new focal point. Working in harmony with the lie of the land and the buildings that surround it, numerous features have been created over the years that are bespoke and truly individual.

From a desire to promote traditional green woodworking skills and coppicing, the business was re-branded a few years later and so The Creative Chestnut Company was born! The ethos of the Company is to work with, and promote the use of, sustainable Sweet Chestnut. In doing so, we aim to raise public awareness about this beautiful timber and to highlight the huge benefits of the associated traditional woodland management system of coppicing.

I am actively involved with the National Coppice Federation (NCFed). This organisation was established to promote and encourage coppicing as a form of woodland management that provides economic, ecological and culturally significant benefits. It also brings local coppice groups together to provide a unified voice for the industry and to encourage and promote the highest standard of practice and the quality of products within the coppice industry. I am also  a  member of my local Dorset Coppice Group  (which is an affiliated member of NCFed) plus a member of the Dorset branch of the Association of Pole Lathe Turners and Green Woodworkers (APTGW)
