From simple constructions using hand cleft palings or pickets, to more detailed and substantial hand-dressed, mortise and tenon framed gates with pegged, rather than nailed, joints. Gates needn’t just sit as a boundary to the garden… use them as a focal-point within the garden itself, or as a way of encouraging visitors to explore what lies beyond the gate. A gate can even be a sturdy, door-like structure, perhaps incorporating a small glass pane for a visitor to spy through!
